Just updating the old journal for the token updates, as well as a
fun Q&A meme from Seldavia.
On the fanfiction front: I
updated Empire of Ashes yesterday as I will try to on Fridays. You can go read it here!
Work is fine. It is mildly disconcerting to have someone who makes robot brains for a living, with 50+ academic publications, send you their resume and a note that reads, "Plese edit for spelling and grammer." No, they're not stupid. Just intensely bad at writing. Only an engineer could somehow write the concept of 'the chance of a false-positive result' as 'a non-unit probability of detection.'
My father went to India yesterday. He will be there for 2 years. I may join him after I graduate for a few months or something. But that's in the future. A dad-less life awaits, I guess.
ONTO THE MEME!
1.What's your favorite Zelda game and why?
That's a tough question. Ocarina of Time is my favorite in many ways, but in others I have to concede that it's not perfect at all. Wind Waker and Twilight Princess are the same. Spirit Tracks is OK, and I like a lot of the older games about the same, with the exception of A Link to the Past, which I like a lot. Skyward Sword was good, but as I said before, I liked only parts of it and the rest I was neutral or "eh," on. I like elements more than full games. I guess my favorite game is
Skyward Ocarina of Twilight Waker to the Past!2. Who is your favorite character?
Ganondorf, Zelda close second, Link close third. I really love the motifs and themes the main characters have; Ganondorf in particular has so many different ones because he was kept classic and interpret-able. He can be many different archetypes, some villainous, some even heroic, depending on how you interpret the mythos around him. Zelda too, but she kind of cemented when her backstory became defined in Skyward Sword, so now I have to adapt to her new motifs as a heir to something greater. Link has even more of this problem: it is the whole point of the game for others to tell him what he is, which means it's more difficult for me to interpret it myself.
3. Who is your least? Why?
Real or Fanon? My least favorite character in fanon is Dark Link. Guys, he doesn't exist. Stop. He is not a sexi bishi. Just stop. Thankfully content with him has tapered off since Ghirahim has appeared, revealing what the fans wanted all along: another non-groady person to molest Link because they think it's hot. Which is probably why I don't like Ghiriahim. The response to him has been just generally unpleasant, hormone laden and somewhat creepy.
6. Which game has the best soundtrack and why?
Skyward Sword, hands down... but some songs in Wind Waker are a close favorite, and Spirit Tracks didn't do too badly either. Twilight Princess is also OK, but when I listen to the music without playing the game I find there are unknown, un-needed jangly sounds in some of the songs (boss themes especially) that obscure the music. While some tracks are just right, a lot of the others are a bit overproduced.
7. Which Princess Zelda design is your favorite?
A tossup between Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword. Ocarina of Time is OK but I felt she had too many bells and whistles and didn't really portray her quiet dignity enough; she's a very solumn character in many ways and also very mysterious. I liked TP and SS designs for different reasons: TP because she really felt like royalty to me, and SS because she was a great Mysterious Maiden, which reminded me of the sacred maidens from previous games.
8. What's the dumbest thing you've done in a Zelda game?
Pulled out the Spinner by accident in the middle of the fight with Ganondorf. Oops.
9. What's the most awesome thing you've done in a Zelda game?
Got the Hylian Shield in Skyward Sword on the Boss Run on the first attempt. SCREW YOU, KOLOTOLOS. I GOT THIS.
10. What moment makes you cry?
"The wind... it is blowing..."
11. If you could kill any person in the entire Zelda series, who would it be?
I can't kill Daphnes, because he's already dead. Maybe Ghirahim, because I want to slap him in the face and say NO TOUCHY. It bothered me that Link didn't manage to whang the creepster in the teeth with the Master Sword when he teleports behind him.
12. What's your fave item?
The Bow and Arrow, hands down. Very few things feel as good as sniping enemies from across the map.
13. Which character would you date?
I don't know. I'd try Ganondorf, but I think that King of Evil thing would make things not work out. Is it a bad thing to say I'd try and date Zelda instead? She seems a bit safer. Except I might have competition. *looks at the entire game series* Uh, yeah, that might not be a good idea, either.
14. Which character do you wish was a sibling of yours?
Link! Link! I want to go riding with him! And then I would be prime to be kidnapped and see Ganondorf! Or I could maybe try not to get in horrible danger, that might be good too. D:
15. Who's the most adorable character?
I... don't know. These games don't do adorable very well, believe it or not. I guess I like Medli and Quill the best. Some of the expressions and movements of the Rito are very cool and endearing. I also like their little bird feets. I don't know why. They just seem cute.
... it's over!
